About the Role

We're actively recruiting a Temporary Works Coordinator to join our team based between our regional hubs in Islington and Dartford covering London and the South East.

As a Temporary Works Coordinator you will be required to manage and co-ordinate the specification, design, approval, checking, installation, maintenance, and removal of all necessary temporary works. Identify all temporary works and record on the temporary works Control Register. You'll need to assess the risk level of all temporary works and record on the temporary works Control Register. Preparation of Design Briefs with full consultation of those involved, ensuring they are adequate and in accordance with the actual situation on site. you must ensure temporary works design and design checks are carried out, as well as ensuring a Design Check Certificate or similar is available, where required. Designs must be available and issued to interested parties (e.g., Client, Principal Designer). You will need to ensure the Safe System of Work for the erection, use and dismantling of the temporary works are prepared, and are communicated to and understood by those involved.

  • Report directly to the General Manager and ensure adherence to our client's temporary works procedures on site.
  • Stay current with training and knowledge regarding temporary works procedures, BS5975, and relevant legislation.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team and project management during the pre-construction phase to identify temporary works requirements.
  • Plan and program temporary works on site, ensuring timely implementation.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive project Temporary Works Management Plan and register.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between our client and contractors for all temporary works matters.
  • Define and communicate interfaces between different contractors’ works by reviewing design briefs, temporary works designs, and programs.
  • Establish and share design briefs with relevant parties before submission to the designer and design checker.
  • Ensure temporary works designs are properly checked, certified, and compliant with the required categories.
  • Conduct and record inspections to ensure temporary works are erected, used, and dismantled in accordance with designs and RAMS.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with contractors.
  • Review and comment on all temporary works designs and contractors’ RAMS for installations.
  • Supervise temporary works installations through our client and contractors’ TWSs.
  • Ensure all required inspections and maintenance of installed temporary works are carried out and documented.
  • Issue and record permits to load and dismantle following inspections.
  • Perform weekly inspections on temporary works managed by our client, including hoarding, gates, barriers, signage, RAMS boards, and fire points.
  • Obtain, review, and record competencies and CVs for temporary works designers, checkers, TWS, and contractors’ TWC.
  • Share ideas, provide advice, and deliver toolbox talks to site operatives regarding the control of temporary works.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Regional Director, Principal Designer, and our client's Health & Safety team regarding any temporary works issues.
  • Ensure compliancy and adherence to health & safety regulations, Mears standard operating procedures Mears values and quality assurance accreditations.
  • Demonstrate, maintain and monitor the company’s commitment to best practice with legislation, codes of practice & good working practices relevant to all work activities.
  • Adherence to and completion of company & client reporting protocols with required timescales.
  • Cultivate a positive, customer focused culture that is instilled and promoted across all work / programme activities via Mears Red Thread. Ensure this culture is actively demonstrated by staff through a professional approach to communicating with all stakeholders, through appearance of sites, works, assets and individuals and in maintaining high health & safety standards at all times.
  • Ensure attainment of high levels of customer satisfaction in delivery and achieving contractual KPI targets, whilst adhering to Mears Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Protect all company assets supplied, ensuring applicable HR Policies & Procedures are followed, with assets maintained in good condition. Utilise reports available to administer this task.
  • Cultivate a strong working relationship with client, service users and local communities.
  • Provide feedback and assessment of client views in relation to project delivery and market trends.

Qualifications

  • HNC in Construction or equivalent qualification (desirable)
  • Good practical knowledge of BS5975 : 2019
  • Advance Scaffold Inspection
  • IOSH or other H&S qualification.
  • Essential Experience

  • You should have substantial experience in temporary works coordination within the construction sector, a strong understanding of BS5975 and current legislation, and excellent organisational and communication skills. Your ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively with various stakeholders will be crucial to your success in this role.
