We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our Dorking District Nursing Team . As an essential member of our team, you will support nurses in delivering high-quality care to patients in their own homes, helping to promote independence and improve health outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct home visits to support patients with their care needs.
  • Assist in specialist care activities such as wound care, Doppler assessments, phlebotomy, and bladder screening under supervision.
  • Perform diagnostic tests as requested by District Nurses, Community Matrons, or GPs, including chronic disease monitoring and repeat testing for residential home patients.
  • Carry out delegated clinical interventions, ensuring best practice and patient safety at all times.
  • Team Working

  • Work collaboratively within the district nursing team, following established procedures and care standards.
  • Support clerical and administrative tasks as required to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain regular communication with senior team members and escalate relevant concerns appropriately.
  • Administration and Clerical Duties

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clear patient records in accordance with Surrey Downs Health and Care guidelines.
  • Manage telephone enquiries, take messages, and liaise with appropriate team members.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of documentation and stationery for clinical and administrative use.
  • Record and manage data entry, including mileage logs and annual leave records in staff databases.
  • Health Promotion

  • Assist in assessing patient care needs and implementing individualised care plans in line with professional standards.
  • Support, educate, and inform patients, families, and carers to enhance understanding and participation in care.

    Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

    As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) within the Dorking District Nursing Team, you will support the delivery of high-quality, holistic care to patients in the community. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses, you will assist with clinical tasks, health promotion, and administrative duties to ensure the smooth operation of the service.

    Person Specification Experience Essential Criteria

  • Must hold UK driving Licence
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional appearance and conduct
  • Willingness to take advice, follow instruction and undertake delegated duties
  • Self Motivated
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working within a pressurised environment
  • Ability to operate a computerised patient record system
  • Qualifications Essential criteria

  • Experience in the Care / Community Sector
  • GCSE in English and Maths
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experienced Health Care Assistant
  • NVQ Level 2 in Care
  • At least 1 years experience in a clinical setting
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
  • Employer certification / accreditation badges
