Electrical or Mechanical Design Engineer - High-Rise Residential ProjectsLocation : Central LondonSalary : Up to £70,000 + packageEmployment Type : Full-time, Permanent About the Role : We are seeking an experienced Electrical or Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading M&E contractor, specialising in high-rise, high-end residential projects in Central London. Reporting directly to the Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing external design consultants and CDP Specialists, ensuring seamless design delivery through the construction stage. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise in an environment where precision, innovation, and collaboration drive success. Key Responsibilities : Manage and oversee design deliverables from appointed external design consultants, ensuring alignment with the project’s programme and budget. Collaborate with internal Design and Commercial teams to address design requirements, resolve blockers, and provide solutions to ensure timely progress. Work closely with in-house and external BIM Engineers to integrate coordinated designs that meet installation and client acceptance standards. Conduct rigorous engineering checks, including calculations, schematics, and drawings, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of design outputs. Utilise AutoCAD, Navisworks, and BIM tools to review, question, and occasionally amend consultancy designs directly. Prepare and present regular Design Progress Reports to the Business Design Manager. Facilitate the design process at project inception, including deliverables planning and programme alignment with preconstruction and planning teams. Manage technical submittals in collaboration with Procurement and Commercial teams, liaising with consultants for approvals. Provide on-site design issue resolution and act as the lead liaison for any design-related challenges during project delivery. Perform first-issue reviews of design consultant deliverables and initiate revisions as necessary. Identify value engineering opportunities, assess associated risks, and recommend solutions to optimise both programme and cost outcomes. Skills and Experience Required : BEng in Engineering or equivalent qualification. Proven experience in high-rise housing projects, particularly at RIBA Stage 5. Strong background working with contractors or consultancies, ideally with a portfolio of high-quality projects delivered for main or MEP contractors. Expertise in high-rise residential design is essential. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, and BIM software. Exceptional communication and teamwork abilities. Highly organised with a keen attention to detail and a track record of meeting tight deadlines. Problem-solving mindset with a proactive and "can-do" approach to work. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and MS Office.
