Job description

HPC Operational SupportClosing Date : 21st May 2025Location : RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.Package : £23,280 - £28,000 per annum (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).Working pattern : AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.Let us introduce the roleWorking as part of the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Group, which sits within our Physics sub-function, this role provides operational support to AWE HPC computer systems and their user communities. The successful candidate will be part of a small team that supports the running of some of the largest supercomputers in the UK on behalf of the MoD.Key Responsibilities : First-line support of the HPC user community; addressing common issues and response to FAQsSupporting the day-to-day running of HPC computer systemsSupporting the secure transfer of user data between classified computer systemsUser account managementSupporting data backup operationsAssist with the commissioning and decommissioning of large computer systemsProvide technical advice and support to HPC usersSupport and update user help web pagesEnsuring understanding and application of responsibilities regarding the Company's Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality StandardsWho are we looking for? We would like to hear from highly motivated who can demonstrate some of the following : Experience of working with computer systemsAbility to obtain a broad understanding of an HPC environment and its support needsMethodical problem resolution skillsAble to work independently and unsupervised, as well as part of a teamGood communication skillsFamiliarity with Microsoft Office applicationsThe following, although not essential, would be advantageous : Familiarity with LINUX / UNIX operating systemsExperience of first-line user supportExperience of web page managementKnowledge of computer security conceptsExperience of working in a secure environmentYou'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload.
