Job description

Applications are invited for a substantive consultant post in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUHFT). The OUH NHS Trust comprises four hospitals : the John Radcliffe, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Churchill Hospital and the Horton General Hospital. Applicants will be based within the rheumatology department at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

This is an exciting time to join SEM and Rheumatology at OUHFT and become part of a consultant workforce with a reputation for excellence. We are seeking enthusiastic colleagues who are trained in SEM and the interface with rheumatology in the management of complicated musculoskeletal conditions. The post offers integration with a large rheumatology department which has strong academic links to the University of Oxford.

The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre is located in the north east part of Oxford, adjacent to the Churchill Hospital and a short distance from the John Radcliffe Hospital and provides musculoskeletal services for the population of Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. The SEM team is part of the larger rheumatology department, and is well integrated with the orthopaedic and rehabilitation services on site as well as providing out reach out patient based care in the surrounding Oxfordshire towns.

We work in a flexible way and encourage ongoing consultant career development. We expect the successful candidates to develop their subspecialty interests.

We will support new colleagues in developing teaching and leadership roles. The Trust is a clinically led organisation and consultants in the department have opportunities to take up senior management roles if they want to pursue this. Research activities in the department are considerable.

The Trust is paper-light. New colleagues are expected to work in line with this; training will be provided.

The appointment is on a part-time basis.

Oxford is a beautiful historic city. We have excellent schools and fabulous communities. There is good access to London, the Cotswolds and rail links around the Country. There is something for everyone.
