The role of the Interpreter is to facilitate communication between people, who do not have a language in common. The interpreter’s duty is to convey the sense and meaning of what is said to enable effective two-way communication.
What we expect from our linguists
Provide professional language interpreting servicesAdhere to our strict Code of ConductProvide an accurate, confidential and impartial interpreting serviceEnsure the highest level of quality by following all interpreting guidelinesDeliver outstanding customer servicePossess excellent communication, language and organisational skillsBe punctual, reliable, confident, enthusiastic and professionalRemain impartial and unbiased, to exhibit courtesy towards the clients and service usersDisplay deep understanding of the culture of both languagesMaintain a professional demeanour throughout the interpreting assignmentQualifications, Experience and Memberships (preferred)
Minimum 2 years’ Interpreting experienceCommunity Interpreting Level 3 CertificateDiploma in Police Interpreting (DPI) / Metropolitan Police TestDiploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI)Any other qualifications related to Interpreting / TranslationBachelor’s and / or Master’s degree in Languages, Translation, Interpretation, Philology, Linguistics or related fieldsPh.D. or Doctoral in Languages, Philology, Linguistics or related fieldsCertificate of Higher Education in Translation, Interpretation, Languages, Philology or LinguisticsNational Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI)Chartered Institute of Linguists Qualifications (CIOL)Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI)Membership of other professional bodies.Proficiency in English language (when appropriate to supply evidence)You must also be able to provide :
