Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Community Clinical Health Psychology Service (CHPS), supporting the three specialist long-term conditions CHPS services based in Waltham Forest, Thurrock and Barking & Dagenham.

We are a dedicated Community Clinical Health Psychology Service committed to improving the mental and physical health and well-being of our community. Our team of professionals works collaboratively to provide high-quality holistic psychological services to adults with chronic physical health problems.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of psychological assessments, interventions, audit and research within our community setting. Working for our organisation

Starting with NELFT

NELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist in the delivery of psychological assessments and interventions under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
  • Conduct audits and service evaluations.
  • Conduct literature reviews and contribute to research projects.
  • Support the development and implementation of therapeutic programs and workshops.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
  • Participate in team meetings and case discussions.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

Applicant must be able to travel efficiently across the North East London area.

Person specification

Experience

  • Research and audit experience
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Experience working with mental health patient groups
  • Experience and interest in working with people with physical health problems
  • Experience of delivering structured therapeutic interventions under supervision

    • Knowledge

  • Undergraduate level understanding of mental health and psychological processes
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies as applied to specific difficult-to-reach groups (such as : personality disorder or people with severe physical disabilities or learning disabilities)
  • Undergraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm to learn about working psychologically with people with long-term physical health conditions
  • Knowledge of outcome and evaluation within applied psychology

    • Skills

  • To be able to work independently and under supervision in a variety of settings
  • Ability to form therapeutic relationships with children, parents, and carers
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to work as an effective team member

    • Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology Or Accredited MSc conversion course in Psychology
  • Additional training relevant to an applied psychology profession
