Job summary

We are offering an exciting fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity, ending 31 / 03 / 25, for a dynamic and motivated professional to join our NWAFT Pathology team as a Deputy Quality Manager.

In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and ongoing development of our Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring that we not only meet but exceed regulatory and accreditation standards.

Main duties of the job

As the Deputy Quality Manager, you will contribute to the design and implementation of quality systems in alignment with the Pathology Service Manager and Quality Manager's strategies, ensuring they meet clinical and governance standards. You'll assist in harmonizing quality processes across the service to meet user needs and support departments in maintaining compliance with UKAS standards.

Additionally, you'll participate in quality initiatives, provide expertise to ensure accreditation compliance, and manage day-to-day quality operations. You'll also deputise for the Pathology Quality Manager in handling Freedom of Information requests and analysing Datix incident trends.

    Education and Qualifications

    Essential

  • oMSc / Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
  • oHCPC State registration
  • oEvidence of mandatory on-going CPD

    • Desirable

  • oRecognised postgraduate management qualification
  • oQuality Management qualification or demonstrable experience

    • Knowledge & Experience

    Essential

  • oHighly developed specialist knowledge of a Pathology Quality Management underpinned by theoretical and practical experience.
  • oTo be proficient in quality and clinical audit, administration, management and development of Pathology services.
  • oProven ability to manage, motivate and train staff
  • oSignificant experience and lead services which comply with MHRA, UKAS systems and standards.

  • oPrevious experience appropriate to a senior management position in the laboratory discipline.

    • Key skills

  • oAble to influence staff and lead the pathology team across multiple sites in a matters of quality.
  • oAble to master complex facts, reach appropriate conclusions and formulate required / relevant responses.
  • oAble to decide upon and implement policies and procedures within the constraints set by the service, Trust and other regulating and professional bodies.
  • oLiterate in laboratory computerisation and PC office applications.
  • oGood practical knowledge of health & safety issues including COSHH, fire regulations and risk assessments
