The Microbiology department at St George's has state of the art equipment, offering full laboratory automation and a vast array of molecular platforms. The laboratory prides itself on its innovative and progressive approach to Microbiology.
Main duties of the job
Microbiology at SWLP is looking for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic, friendly team. You will be deployed in Microbiology at the St George's site. The department offers the latest equipment in the Microbiology field with three Kiestra lines, MALDI-ToF technology, Uri-system, Liaison XLs, EntericBio, BD FX, MGIT and Phoenix. There is an automated Serology track system and a specialised Molecular service including high throughput analysers.
The department also offers an extensive screening program for latent TB for the London region.
The post holder will be expected to have good knowledge and experience in Microbiology in addition to being able to demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.
You will be expected to participate in a 24 / 7 shift system which includes weekend, night, late and bank holiday working as part of hours.

Provides specialist technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.
Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
Able to perform all core scientific and interpretive work, which corresponds to the training and qualifications of a Registered Biomedical Scientist.
To assist in training and supervising staff and deputising for the Advanced Biomedical Scientist when necessary.
