UE04 : £25,443 - £28,081 Per Annum.

Information, Technical and Technology Services (ITTS) team, Edinburgh College of Art

Open Ended Contract - Permanent.

Full Time - 35 hours per week

The Opportunity :

As an Assistant Technician in Photography, you will assist with the support, operation and maintenance of technical facilities at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA). You will be providing inductions, guidance and support to students and staff in standard processes and techniques, and assisting students with their projects under the support and guidance of a Technical Manager and Specialist Technicians.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is keen to gain new skills in multiple areas across our technical workshops.

Although you will be based primarily in photography, an occasional cover across other Media and Immersive areas (Film & TV, Music, Animation and Immersive), will sometimes be required.

Your skills and attributes for success :

  • Vocational qualifications (N / SVQ 2 / 3, ONC or equivalent) plus work experience in a relevant role OR school education to standard grade or equivalent plus relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge and experience of relevant photography processes and equipment to include at least 2 of : digital and analogue photography, wet and dry darkroom processes- experience using enlargers, photo chemicals, and digital processors
  • A good awareness and understanding of Health and Safety practices within an educational environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge, interest and experience of working in an Art and / or Design background
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to produce documentation and help material for students and staff
  • Ability to work effectively in a team under minimal supervision, and to work with students and staff of a variety of levels of technical ability.
