Job summary

We are currently expanding our service and team, and we are looking to recruit a highly motivated team leader to work as a Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse within the Catheter Suite. The Catheter Suite is a busy department with four cath labs, who provide care to patients undergoing a variety of Cardiac procedures and Neurointervention procedures.

These include emergency procedures such as Stroke Thrombectomy and Primary PCI, and therefore the post holder will be required to undertake in the on-call rota. In addition to emergency procedures we also offer Pacing / Device service, Structural Heart Valve service, Coronary Intervention, EP service and Neurointervention service.

Main duties of the job

A skilled practitioner and clinical leader who provides world class care to our patients. Ensuring health and safety , IRMER and Radiation protection safety guidelines are adhered to. Acting as a role model within the department the post holder will provide support, mentorship and training to their team. Whilst also ensuring that UHCWi methodology is used to constantly strive to improve the services we provide. The post holder will be able to coordinate the labs on a day to day basis, and will be required to undertake additional training to become competent in nurse-led services.

Please note this post is not suitable for applicants who are required to undertake the OSCE training programme. Applicants who do not have current valid UK NMC registration will not be considered for this post.

Job responsibilities

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times
  • Maintain effective and supportive communications with evidence of well-developed communication skills, able to effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policies and care pathways to patients, carers, nursing staff and the multi-professional team.
  • Act as a skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the senior nursing team. Able to coordinate a shift effectively, supporting and acting as a role model to nursing staff to develop leadership skills.
  • Ability to scrub as second operator during specific diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Responsible for organisation, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for patients undergoing interventional procedure in the Cath lab.
  • Participate in the Cath Lab on-call rota for Primary PCI and stroke thrombectomy.
  • Liaise with nursing staff in other departments relating to co-ordination of patient care within the Catheter Suite.
  • Ensure that careful, accurate and concise nursing records are maintained.
  • Responsibility to ensure IRMER compliance, adhering to radiation protection for patients and staff.
  • Ensure that sufficient specified equipment levels are maintained within the department. Responsible for ensuring that regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment is carried out, faults reported, and defective equipment removed from use.
