Job description

Job summary

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and well-motivated Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to join the team at the Microbiology laboratory in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board at our Royal Gwent Hospital site, with Andrology services based at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.

We are looking to employ a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist, who has HCPC registration, relevant experience in Microbiology and Andrology and has completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

We would also welcome applications from individuals who are currently undertaking or are willing to undertake the IBMS Training Portfolio and for these posts we will appoint at Annex 21.

Full time, part time or job share applications will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The Department processes a wide variety of clinical samples using both manual and automated methodology. We cover a variety of services, such as Bacteriology, Serology, Mycology, Molecular Diagnostics and Andrology. Molecular Microbiology is based at The Grange University Hospital (Cwmbran), Bacteriology, Virology and GU Medicine services are based at Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport) and Andrology is based Nevill Hall Hospital (Abergavenny) and you may be required to work at either site according to the demands of the service. The post is a full time permanent role, covering hours per week. There will be a requirement to work evenings, night shifts, weekends and Bank holidays on a rotational basis.
