Overview of the role :

Reporting to the engineering manager, the successful candidate will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business.

The role is within the Group Electrics and Controls Wheeled Loader and Telemaster team. This position is responsible for leading the electronics design to ensure that the new JCB Product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery.

Your Responsibilities :

General Duties :

  • Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
  • Concept, prototyping and development of Simulink model based applications across a wide variety of machine functions
  • Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
  • Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet)
  • Experience in the model based software rapid prototyping and productionisation
  • Work inline with industry standard development techniques ie V Model and software development processes
  • Support of cause and effect analysis – risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa / fishbone

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Strong desire to learn from working on differing system architectures and coding techniques.
  • Familiar with different requirements capturing tools ie IBM DOORS.
  • Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230
  • Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety)
  • Experience in the completion of different V&V techniques White / Grey / Black box testing

    • Essential :

  • Able to convert a list of desirables, into clear concise testable statements (functional requirements)
  • Confident in use of software modelling tools & software
  • Sound base knowledge of electronic and software development
  • Familiar with CAN bus protocols or vehicle communication networks
  • Awareness of functional safety and security impact, on software development
  • Experience of validation and verification activities
  • Experience taking electronic systems from concept through to delivery.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills

    • Desired Senior Engineer :

  • Experience in Matlab / Simulink development for embedded
  • Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development
  • Qualified to HND / Degree level in an electronic / software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in embedded control systems development comprising :
  • Systems applications.
  • Proficient in software lifecycle management :
  • Requirements capture (e.g. DOORs)
  • Version control systems.
  • Software development management tools such as JIRA
  • Validation and verification co-ordination
  • Experience of Project delivery
  • Understanding of and adherence to quality systems and processes.
  • Understanding of FuSa and Cyber techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434)
  • Co-ordination of tasks with the wider team.

    • Desired Principal Engineer :

  • Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development
  • Experience in Matlab / Simulink development for embedded
  • Qualified to Degree / Masters level in an electronic / software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Able to co-ordinate / manage Project delivery incl. budget control
  • Proficient in leading the software lifecycle management :
  • Requirements capture (e.g. DOORs)
  • Version control systems.
  • Software development management tools such as JIRA
  • Code reviews
