An exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Community Occupational Therapist has become available in the South Derbyshire and Dales Community Mental Health Team.

  • Main duties of the job

    We are an experienced and professional team, dedicated to the goal of providing excellent care for the Older Adult population of South Derbyshire and Dales.

    As a team, we are a friendly and supportive; ensuring that we operate with professionalism and inclusivity.

    Due to the broad geographical area this post covers the post holder will need to demonstrate that they can travel within the area, transporting Service Users as needed occasionally, without compromising service needs.

    Main duties of the job

    Work with Service Users with both functional and organic illnesses, with the full support of the MDT.

    Carry a caseload of patients with varying needs.

    Use excellent assessment skills, risk management skills and communication skills; working towards building therapeutic relationships with both Service Users and their families / carers.

    Work as part of a knowledgeable, supportive and forward-thinking team who are committed to supporting and guiding learning and development.

    Work closely with our Voluntary partners and Primary Care.

    Receive regular Clinical, Managerial and Peer supervision and access a wide range of development opportunities.

    We welcome applications from newly-qualified Occupational Therapists and offer support and guidance and an excellent Preceptorship programme.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • HCPC-Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Degree / diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Desirable criteria

  • Membership of OT professional body and / or special interest group
  • Post-graduate training relevant to specialist area
  • L’APPLE accreditation
  • Skills

    Essential criteria

  • Ability to apply core OT skills in a mental health setting, including carrying out occupational assessments and setting occupational goals.
  • Well-developed motivational and negotiating skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities
  • Desirable criteria

  • Skills in applying evidence-based practice.
  • Knowledge / Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with dementia and / or cognitive impairment
  • Experience of working with people who have severe and enduring needs
  • Knowledge and application of theoretical models of practice
  • Understanding of Mental Health conditions and treatment models
  • Knowledge of the principles or risk assessment and risk management
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to Mental Health and Specialist practice where appropriate
