Job Title : Head of English Department

Stickney, Lincolnshire

Overview : The Head of English plays a pivotal role in leading the English department to uphold academic excellence and foster a supportive learning environment. This position requires a blend of educational leadership, curriculum development expertise, and a deep commitment to the mission and values of the academy.

Responsibilities :

Curriculum Development : Design, implement, and review the English curriculum to ensure alignment with academic standards, student needs, and the mission of the academy. Incorporate innovative teaching methodologies and resources to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Instructional Leadership : Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to English faculty members, fostering a collaborative and professional learning community. Conduct regular observations and provide constructive feedback to enhance teaching practices and student learning experiences.

Staff Management : Recruit, train, and evaluate English faculty members, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to deliver high-quality instruction. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, creativity, and continuous professional development.

Student Support : Oversee the academic progress and well-being of English students, implementing strategies to support their individual needs and promote student success. Collaborate with other departments and support services to provide comprehensive student support services.

Assessment and Evaluation : Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure student progress and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional practices. Use assessment data to inform instructional decision-making and drive continuous improvement within the English department.

Community Engagement : Cultivate positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider community, serving as a liaison between the English department and external stakeholders. Organize events, workshops, and outreach activities to promote English language learning and appreciation.

Professional Development : Stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in English language teaching and learning. Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance personal and departmental effectiveness.

Administrative Duties : Manage departmental budgets, resources, and administrative tasks efficiently and effectively. Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategic plans and initiatives that advance the mission and goals of the academy.

Qualifications :

  • English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in educational leadership, preferably in a similar role within a multicultural or religious institution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and staff management.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning platforms.
  • Commitment to the values and ethos of the Church of England.
