We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our department at Southmead Hospital. This part-time, permanent role involves 7 sessions per week (7 PA job plan), providing exemplary care for palliative patients in the South West.

The Palliative Care team operates in an advisory capacity across all specialties within the Trust, receiving over 1800 new referrals annually. We are a dynamic team committed to delivering outstanding palliative and end-of-life care, fostering strong partnerships across various hospital divisions. Main duties include comprehensive symptom control for patients with malignant and non-malignant diseases, psychological and emotional support, end-of-life care management, and rapid discharge planning in collaboration with local hospices.

North Bristol NHS Trust, with over 12,000 staff, is renowned for exceptional healthcare provision across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset. We are a Major Trauma Centre and excel in various specialties, striving to provide personally delivered healthcare of the highest standard.

The Consultant will undertake clinical duties encompassing triage, initial patient assessment, and ward reviews, collaborating closely with CNSs and other clinical teams. Educational responsibilities include supervision of postgraduate doctors and medical students, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Involvement in clinical governance, audit projects, and participation in research initiatives are also key components of the role.

Essential qualifications include MBBS or equivalent, full GMC registration, and CCT in Palliative Medicine with entry on the GMC Specialist Register. Demonstrable experience in UK hospital systems, palliative care management, and teaching are required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams are essential.
