Job summary

The post holder will manage the practice education team, to ensure robust processes are in place to meet the unit's governance, training and education agenda and contribute to the delivery of our high quality maternity service.

The post holder will lead and work closely with the senior midwifery team and the Clinical Director to ensure all standards are achieved, and a robust process is in place to meet all governance and Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) agendas. This will include the review / development of clinical guidelines, implementing midwifery practice development plans and actions in response to risk case reviews and clinical supervision reviews. They will lead, action and implement national and local recommendations in relation to clinical practice updates and training. The post holder will have oversight of the training database recording all statutory and mandatory training and provide monthly reports detailing compliance within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), as part of the governance process. If below the CNST threshold will evidence appropriate actions and suitable mitigations to provide assurance of safety within the maternity unit.

There will be a strong focus on supporting midwives in clinical practice and ensuring all induction mentoring and mandatory training of new staff is robustly in place and completed. This role requires a midwife who is highly clinically skilled and experienced.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To provide professional and managerial support to the Director of Midwifery / Divisional Manager in relation to maternity services.

2. The post holder will be expected to provide guidance, support and leadership to all midwifery, nursing and support staff within the maternity unit.

3. Jointly working with the Director of Midwifery, and Clinical Lead the post holder will set the strategic direction for public health and transformation.

4. The post holder will be required to explore current practice, identifying areas for development, and planning the appropriate change using research and experience to evaluate outcomes.

5. The post holder will deputise for the Directorate Management Team as required.

6. To lead on the implementation of the recommendations of national policy documents in relation to named area of responsibility.
