Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant General Paediatrician with ideally a Specialist Interest in Paediatric Nephrology (however all specialty interests will be considered) at our busy secondary care service in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for a paediatrician with relevant qualifications and experience to join a team of enthusiastic General Consultant and Career Grade Paediatricians who are committed to provide a high quality service to the children of Bradford. Applicants must have excellent organisational and communication skills, be good at team work and have experience in acute inpatient and outpatient General Paediatrics.

Previous experience in area of specialty interest is desirable but not essential and an enthusiastic candidate with suitable skill set would be considered for support and training within this post.

Main duties of the job

The paediatric renal service provides comprehensive care for around 300 children residing in the catchment area.

Currently, the renal service comprises a consultant paediatrician with a specialisation in nephrology. The service is further supported by a visiting paediatric nephrologist from Leeds, who conducts a monthly clinic, participates in monthly Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, and provides regular weekly support.

This collaborative approach ensures that our young patients receive the highest quality of care, benefitting from the expertise and consultation of both the local consultant and the visiting specialist. The presence of the visiting paediatric nephrologist greatly enhances the depth and breadth of knowledge available to our team, contributing to the overall development of our service.

Job responsibilities

Duties will also include participation in the on call rota (all existing full time consultant posts have PA / week for on-call duties which includes an allocation for weekend ward rounds) and a contribution to delivering the safeguarding service for non-sexual abuse assessments. There are 8 ward weeks / year with double Consultant of The Week cover for the Paediatric Wards.

The Paediatric team are in the process of adopting a working pattern to provide resident evening cover of the wards until 22 : 00 throughout the week Monday to Friday and second consultant ward round support at the weekend 08 : 30-1430.

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) or equivalent.
  • CCT or within 6 months of AAC date.
