We are currently looking for a Forklift & Material Handling Service Engineer to support our forklift trucks and large material handling products, including port machinery. In this role, you will be responsible for on-site and depot-based maintenance and repair work, supported by a skilled and engaged service team.

Your tasks :

  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components, including hydraulic valves and rams
  • Performing engine, final drive, and gearbox repairs on diesel and electric-powered forklifts and port machinery
  • Inspecting equipment, identifying faults, and working with the Service Manager to provide customers with accurate repair quotations
  • Carrying out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment
  • Identifying and documenting chargeable repairs that require customer approval before proceeding
  • Completing partial or full strip-downs of machinery as required for thorough diagnostics or major repairs
  • Using appropriate tools (meters, hydrometers) to test traction battery voltages and specific gravity, and conducting battery condition surveys
  • Handling job reporting, time entry, part identification, and service documentation via a tablet-based system
  • Coordinating with the Service Manager and Parts Manager to ensure efficient service delivery and parts logistics
  • Delivering a professional and customer-focused service, aimed at building long-term relationships and trust with clients

Your profile :

  • Proven experience in a similar service or maintenance role, ideally with forklift trucks, or alternatively with plant equipment, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles, or HGVs
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems and their practical applications
  • A Level 3 City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent BTEC qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality service
  • A valid full UK driver’s licence, with a willingness to travel to customer sites as required
