Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant

Rotherham, S63

100 per day

Start date : ASAP

Contract type : Temp - perm following 12 weeks successful temporary placement

Working hours : Monday - Friday, term time only

Unique School Solutions are working with a specialist school in Rotherham, which supports students aged 5-19 with Autism (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), who are looking to appoint specialist Teaching Assistants to work across the school. The role will be working on a 1 : 1, 2 : 1 or 3 : 1 basis with students in the classroom, under the direction of the teacher, as well as supporting during breaks and at lunchtime. The role is to start ASAP and for the right person could lead to a permanent job after 12 weeks.

Essential requirements for the role :

  • Previous experience working with children or adults with Autism and / or Pathological Demand Avoidance. This must be in a school, residential, or Social Care setting.
  • Good level of fitness and health. This is a physically demanding role due to the needs of the students and the duties of the job.
  • Patience, calmness, and empathy.
  • The ability to work under the direction of the class teacher as well as using own initiative.
  • Additional training such as TeamTeach, Manual Handling, or Personal Care is beneficial but not essential.
  • Due to the location of the school, having a car and full driving licence would be beneficial.
