Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 registered nurse to join the Adult Stoma Care Nurses (SCN) Team to deliver a high quality, effective and forward thinking stoma care service based at NUH, covering across campuses. Both full time and part-time working patterns will be considered.

As an Adult SCN you will be responsible for providing specialist nursing interventions to achieve and maintain the highest standards of stoma care within the hospital and outpatient setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a first level registered nurse with evidence of post registration experience and professional development. Relevant specialist knowledge and skills in stoma care and colorectal pathway is essential.

The ability to be flexible & organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering high quality and successful service is essential.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required to maintain and develop relationships within a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's "We are here for you" behavioural standards
  • Degree in nursing
  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Foundation in Stoma Care
  • Experience in caring for patients awaiting colorectal surgery
  • Experience in caring for patients having colorectal surgery and experience of stoma care in hospital and / or community settings
  • Time spent with Stoma Care Team
  • Experience of communication within a Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to use Office programmes such as Word, Excel, and Power Point etc. (or similar)
  • Demonstrate ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multi professional team
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize own workload, recognize and respond appropriately to urgent situations
  • Demonstrate ability to delegate appropriate tasks to other colleagues
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current issues relating to the NHS policies
  • Experience of data collection and analysis.
  • Excellent time keeping and time management
  • Fit and able to manage a patient workload across both campuses of NUH and the Nottingham Treatment Centre
  • Willingness and ability to work, across both campuses at NUH, independently at weekends, bank holidays (approximately 1 in 3 but may vary in frequency) and late cover.
