POSITION : Night Care Assistant (Waker)

RESPONSIBLE TO : MANAGER

SHIFT PATTERN : 9.45 pm to 8.00am, five nights per week, including alternate weekends.

PURPOSE OF POSITION : To provide night duty cover in the home. To undertake certain domestic duties which can be performed during the night hours. To be appointed “person in charge” in the absence of Senior staff.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Carry out regular checks around the home at intervals determined by the Care Manager and with due regard to residents’ privacy.

2. Carry out regular checks on the building with special reference to fire protection and security.

3. Answer emergency bells, assess the situation, assist with the resident seeking help.

4. Assist residents who need help, reassurance or comfort.

5. Assist residents preparing for bed and waking in the morning.

6. In the time available between attending to residents, undertake domestic duties primarily in the fields of laundry and ironing, food preparation or cleaning as directed.

7. Read and write reports in case notes.

8. Take part in staff meetings and training activities.

9. Give medication, taking full responsibility for this if appointed “person in charge” as above.

10. Such other reasonable duties as may be required.
