Location : Totnes, Devon

Contract Type : Full-time, Permanent

Start Date : September 2025 (or earlier by negotiation)

Salary : Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you a passionate, creative communicator with a love for English and a desire to make a meaningful impact? Our client, a nurturing and inclusive special school set in the scenic countryside of Totnes , is looking to appoint a dedicated English Teacher to join their supportive team.

Whether you're an experienced educator or coming from a different background with strong English subject knowledge, this is a fantastic opportunity to teach and inspire students who learn differently— no QTS is required.

Our client is a well-regarded special school that supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), SEMH, and learning difficulties. The Role

As the English Teacher, you will deliver creative, accessible and meaningful English lessons tailored to a range of learning styles and abilities. You'll help students develop literacy skills, self-expression, and a love of language—whether through traditional texts, creative writing, or functional English. You’ll be supported by a close-knit team of SEN professionals, therapists, and support staff.

The Ideal Candidate Will :

Have strong subject knowledge and a passion for English Language and / or Literature

Be enthusiastic about working with students with SEN and SEMH needs

Be creative, patient, and flexible in their approach to teaching

Have experience in SEN, alternative provision, or therapeutic settings (desirable but not essential)

Be an excellent communicator with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships

Hold QTS or be unqualified with relevant experience and / or academic background in English

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
