Public Prosecutor – Northern Ireland Civil Service

Location : Various locations across Northern Ireland

Job Type : Temporary | Up to 12 months

Sector : Legal | Public Sector & Government

Salary : Up to £21.99 per hour

Hours : Monday to Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM (37 hours per week)

About the Role

Staffline Recruitment Ireland is seeking Public Prosecutors to join the Northern Ireland Civil Service. This role is ideal for experienced legal professionals looking to make a meaningful impact within the criminal justice system. The successful candidates will play a key role in the prosecution of serious and indictable offences across Northern Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess files submitted by police and government departments, providing legal advice on prosecution decisions.
  • Prepare and direct prosecution papers, charges, and evidence in line with legal requirements.
  • Prosecute cases in Magistrates’ Courts and, on occasion, in the County Court.
  • Provide pre-prosecutorial advice and liaise with key stakeholders, including victims, witnesses, counsel, and police.
  • Prepare committal papers for indictable cases as required.

    • Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Barrister or Solicitor, entitled to practise in Northern Ireland.
  • At least one year of post-qualification advocacy experience in criminal cases, gained within the last six years in a Magistrates’ Court.

    • Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Criminal Law.
