Job Description

Do you want to join our Geo-data revolution? Fugro’s global reach and unique know-how will put the world at your fingertips. Our love of exploration and technical expertise help us to provide our clients with invaluable insights. We source and make sense of the most relevant Geo-data for their needs, so they can design, build and operate their assets more safely, sustainably and efficiently. But we’re always looking for new talent to take the next step with us. For bright minds who enjoy meaningful work and want to push our pioneering spirit further. For individuals who can take the initiative but work well within a team.

The role

The Fugro Marine Environmental team within the Marine Site Characterisation business line is now looking for an experienced and driven Senior Marine Environmental Scientist to join the team based in either our Portchester office or Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University campus on a fixed term contract.

This is a pivotal role, managing a team of Environmental Scientists, responsible for producing and checking high quality technical reports, including habitat mapping and assessments.

The Marine Environmental team specialises in environmental site characterisation and environmental monitoring. The data we collect enables our clients and regulatory organisations to fully understand the effects of developments and activities in the coastal and marine environment.

Your key responsibilities will include ensuring work is of the highest standard and quality, line management, training and appraisals, preparation of environmental technical reports utilising relevant statistical analysis of data and mapping software, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.

You will ensure all activities are carried out to company specific standards and are in line with our QHSSE policies.

Who we’re looking for

  • BSc or MSc in Marine Science or Environmental Science or relevant equivalent.
  • It is essential you have experience of writing and quality control of interpretive reports.
  • Line management experience.
  • Experience of intertidal / nearshore / offshore environmental survey techniques (grab sampling, box core, drop-down video and water samplers / profilers).
  • It is preferable that you have good experience in video analysis, habitat mapping and sensitive habitat assessments.
  • Experience of marine macrofauna identification and in physical and chemical analysis.
  • Experience of statistical analysis.
  • Good Microsoft Office capabilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines.
