Medwyn Surgery are offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled Practice Nurse to join their busy team.

The successful candidate will be working within a large friendly and caring nurse team, who pride themselves on providing high quality care to their patients and support to their colleagues.

Medwyn Surgeryserves around 13,800 patients. The Practice has a very clear objective inwanting to provide patients with the highest possible standard of primaryhealthcare; not only medical care, but also in terms of health information andawareness, the community from which they deliver their services and in theDoctor / Patient relationship.

The Partners are proud of the services they provide and theirexcellent reputation. These are all delivered from a purpose built one stophealth centre, completed in 2006. The Centre now houses Medwyn Surgery, as wellas physiotherapy, podiatry, community staff, conference facilities, a pharmacy,audiology and a range of services delivered by a number of sessional medicalpractitioners. The Centre is entirely disabled friendly, has CCTV and comfortcooling as well automated check in and patient calling facilities. The space isfresh, bright and well fitted and this all contributes to a first class workingenvironment.

The Practice provides the full range of Enhanced Services to itspatients and offers Improved Access appointments every weekday evening andSaturdays.

Medwyn is part of Dorking Primary Care Network. This consists of4 Dorking practices that have a proven track record of successfully workingtogether collaboratively and effectively for the benefit of patients and thewider community.

Job responsibilities

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST

To ensurethe delivery of an effective Practice Nursing service to the local practicepopulation. This will involve assessingpatient health needs, planning and implementing care to meet those needs andevaluation of the care delivered, in conjunction with the GPs.

Thepostholder will be expected to work with the Primary Health Care Team to ensurea seamless delivery of care within the Practice and to promote a positive imageof the Practice to its patients and service users.

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES - Clinical

Tocarry out a wide range of treatment room duties vaccinations etc. inparticipation with GPs or independently agreed protocols.

To actively encourage and develophealth promotion programmes providing advice in areas of hypertensionmonitoring, travel, diet smoking cessation etc. within agreed practiceprotocols.

To participate in screening Breast, Cervical, Testicular and Immunisation programmes by raising patientawareness, competently carrying out tests and ensuring results are deliveredand acted upon appropriately.

To maintain Chronic DiseaseRegisters to support the management of National and Local Programmes Asthma / Diabetes.

To assist with minor surgery andspecialist clinics as appropriate.

To maintain stocks and supplies andmaintain health and safely within the treatment rooms in line with Practiceprotocols.

To undertake occasional treatmentsin the community as directed by the GPs.

Tosee patients as an initial contact to assess / treat in line with PracticeGuidelines.

To give appropriate telephone advice topatients where directed by doctors.

To provide educational support fortrainees. Registrars, paramedics, medical students, student nurses.

To providesupervision of health care assistants and phlebotomists.

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES - Administrative

Toaccurately document all consultations and treatments in computer records.

Toensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated withpatient health care and registration with the practice to include new patientchecks etc.

Tomaintain and collate statistical information required for ad hoc and regularreports and for audit purposes and to co-operate and participate in researchprojects agreed by the Primary Health Care Team.

Toparticipate in the development of protocols and guidelines and assist in theformulation of Practice philosophy and policy.

Toattend and participate in Practice meetings as required and to work as anactive member of the Practice Nursing Team.

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES - Professional

Tobe responsible for own professional practice and accountability according toNMC Code of Conduct and to maintain NMC registration and up to date knowledgeof drug administration.

Toacknowledge clinical limitations and not undertake any procedures for which thenurse is not adequately trained.

Tomaintain confidentiality.

Tomaintain professional development by attending courses and study days asarranged with the Partners and in line with NMC recommendations.

Toundertake any other duties which are commensurate with the level andresponsibilities of the post.

Toactively and continuously review all activities and suggest areas forimprovement.
