Job Description

The role of Senior Team Leader can never be defined fully, but in all matters he / she must demonstrate leadership and command respect within the business. All decisions must be communicated clearly, both to those responsible to the post holder and to those persons to whom the post holder reports.

The Senior Team Leader should be prepared to take the initiative and continually improve operational activity. Candidates require ambition and a high level of commitment. This role is critical to decision-making processes within the business and therefore the successful candidate must gain the trust and loyalty of all the stakeholders in the contract.

The main responsibilities of the cemeteries Senior Team Leader will be

To direct and co-ordinate the grave digging employees and the use of plant and vehicles in the performance of the burial service

To ensure that all employees under the post holder's supervision are aware of the Health & Safety at Work Regulations and Risk Assessments and that they use the appropriate PPE

To ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported to their line manager in accordance with Glendale procedures for the reporting of accidents. To arrange suitable H&S training and provide appropriate information and guidance on health and safety matters

To liaise closely with the Contract Management Team & Business support in relation to the continuity of work and the availability of necessary specialist labour and plant to maximize the efficient use of the sections resources

To ensure full compliance with the NBBC code of practice for interments (training will be provided)

To control all grave digging and associated operations at all NBBC controlled cemeteries, which includes arranging for a daily list of the day's burials to be distributed to all cemetery staff

To assist the general public with the identification of grave spaces

To assist the Cemetery Manager in the maintenance of the local register of burials within the cemeteries

To assist and co-operate with Funeral Directors during funeral processions and burials within the cemeteries

To be responsible for ensuring that all work time breaks are organised so that burial services are not interrupted or delayed

To maintain a daily diary of all work activities under the post holder's control

To maintain up to date knowledge of statutory requirements and other regulations relating to H&S and the area of responsibility, making recommendations for improvements which can be introduced. Full training will be given for the right candidate

To ensure that all staff members provide good customer care and frontline service, leading by example by dealing with complaints, implementing problem solving and responding to customer enquiries

This role will require the post holder to be flexible as they will be exposed to all inclement weather conditions

To undertake training as a means of further improving personal skills and service delivery

Participate and be available for at least one weekend out of 4 for the In-House emergency call out rota
