Job description

Jackson Hogg is proud to be recruiting for a solutions focused engineer to join an innovative renewable engineering business as a Hydrogen Safety Engineer. This company works at the forefront in the development of the production and use of hydrogen as a fuel for off-grid power and beyond, and this is a technical role to determine safety surrounding hydrogen production. The ideal candidate should have experience working with hazardous gases (ideally hydrogen) and have the ability to research unknown topics going back to first principles, legislation, standards, and academic research. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and be confident in discussing and defending their process, methods, and reporting to colleagues, customers, and regulators.

The role offers a great deal of autonomy, progression opportunities, and the chance to work within the exciting field of engineering and renewables, contributing towards the goal of net-zero.

Responsibilities

This is a varied role and will be dependent on your strengths and experience. The role will include, but is not limited to, the following :

  • Work closely with other engineers within mechanical and process safety departments to analyse and research new areas of hydrogen engineering, particularly focused around hydrogen safety.
  • Liaise with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders regularly to discuss findings and processes.
  • Be involved in hazardous area classification, design of site layouts and equipment, oversee ATEX conformance of equipment and installations, and oversee CE marking of ATEX equipment (depending on experience).

Requirements

  • A strong academic background within a scientific (physics) / mechanical engineering or process safety background (ideally obtain a PhD / Master's degree).
  • Experience working on projects involving ATEX / hydrogen safety (in industry, research, or university).
  • A broad understanding of hazardous gases and related industry standards.
  • Desire to evolve, progress understanding, and problem-solve.
  • Perform engineering drawings to discuss your findings.
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of IEC 60079 standards.
  • Proficient in CAD software and Inventor.
  • Knowledge of ATEX directives, DSEAR, EPS regulations.
  • This role is open to consideration of engineers with experience ranging from graduates through to experienced engineers, and the responsibilities will be in accordance with your experience level.
