Job description

Location : North Wales, Colwyn Bay Alexandra House

Hours : Full-time, 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Contract : Permanent

Salary : £58,500 - £64,500

As the Head of Medical Services, you will lead and oversee the strategic management of Occupational Health and Wellbeing Services. Reporting to the Head of People & Organisational Development, you will provide expert advice and direction on clinical governance and medical issues, working closely with the Medical Advisor.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Chair and participate in local, regional, and national meetings, including the Clinical Governance Board.
  • Provide clinical guidance, triage cases, and manage workload allocation within the department.
  • Implement new case management systems and ensure compliance with departmental policies and clinical governance.
  • Lead and manage the Medical Services teams, overseeing recruitment, retention, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Liaise with senior managers in Health Boards.
  • Manage budgets, contracts, and outsourced services within Medical Services.
  • Drive the Welfare and Wellbeing Agenda, including critical incident debriefing and peer support initiatives.

Requirements :

  • Registered General Nurse with a specialist qualification in Occupational Health, OHND, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in Occupational Health or a similar environment, including managing health surveillance and promotion programs.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to effect change and manage performance.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work autonomously, make evidence-based decisions, and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Willingness to travel within the force area.
