Job overview

We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our friendly and supportive team here in Ashford Liaison!

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry based at William Harvey Hospital in Kent, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service and actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services.

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is a large provider of acute and specialist services that serves a population of over 750,000 across Dover, Canterbury, Thanet, Shepway and Ashford.

You will work collaboratively with one other Consultant Psychiatrist to provide a single point of contact for the mental health needs of patients attending the Emergency Department or admitted to William Harvey Hospital.

Successful applicants will ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent and be on, or within six months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register. You will be fully registered with the GMC, and have Approved Clinician status and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achieve this within 3 months of appointment).

Main duties of the job

  • To provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service and contribute

to cross cover.

  • To provide medical expertise within the Multidisciplinary Liaison Team.
  • To act as a Responsible Clinician (Approved Clinician status) for patients detained under the MHA to the acute trust.
  • To ensure effective liaison occurs between mental health services and the acute hospital, and
  • also with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate
