Job Title : Teacher of English

Location : Portsmouth, Hampshire

Salary : £30,000 - £46,535 per annum (Depending on experience).

Start time : After Easter 2025 or September 2025

Contract Type : Full-Time (Permanent / Fixed Term) ( Part-time available for the right candidate )

About the Role

As a Teacher of English , you will play a key role in delivering engaging and thought-provoking lessons, nurturing students' love for literature and language. You will inspire confidence in reading, writing, and communication, helping students develop essential skills for their future.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons in English, ensuring alignment with the national curriculum.
  • Foster critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students.
  • Use innovative teaching methodologies to enhance learning and student engagement.
  • Monitor student progress and provide targeted support and feedback to enhance achievement.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that caters to diverse student needs.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and collaborate with colleagues on department initiatives.
  • Support students with coursework, exam preparation and career guidance related to English.

R equirements :

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be an Early Career Teacher (ECT).
  • Applications from overseas-trained teachers who meet UK teaching standards are welcomed.
  • Experienced Teaching Assistants or Cover Supervisors looking to progress into teaching will also be considered.
  • A strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching English.
  • The ability to engage and inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and a commitment to high expectations.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
