About this opportunity :

The team designs electrical and control systems in support of product and process developments, collaborating with our technology teams in Wantage, manufacturing plants and suppliers.

As a key member of the electrical and controls team, you will take assignments from brief and specification through design and build to final sign-off. In addition, the applicant will be expected to provide control and electrical support to new development equipment installations on the Wantage site, and support existing equipment with modifications and upgrades. There is also a requirement to support Wantage site-based infrastructure projects as required. In order to achieve some requirements of the role, occasional travel will be required to manufacturing plants and suppliers within the different Crown divisions (Europe, America & Asia / Pacific).

Main Responsibilities :

  • Electrical and controls design for special purpose equipment, development test rigs, instrumentation and machine modification packages related to new machinery, products and manufacturing processes.
  • Creating and interpreting work briefs, functional specifications, schematics, detail design, commissioning, testing and validation.
  • Work within a team of control engineers, electrical technicians and apprentices to deliver projects from definition, through specification, concept and detail design, build, commissioning and test. Responsibilities include :
  • Designing mains, motor and low voltage control systems
  • Providing instrumentation, sensor specifications and vision systems for machine and process control
  • Programming of PLCs, HMIs, distributed control and intelligent drive controllers
  • Data capture and familiarity with network communications
  • Electrical system design, component selection and BOMs
  • Support the site electrical Duty Holder and site AP to ensure compliance with electrical standards and safety practices
  • Deliver technical craft training and know-how to electrical apprentices and trainees.
  • Collaborate in the development of new ideas / improvements for the Businesses.
  • Maintain effective communication, with team members & colleagues within CT and with the Businesses if required.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards in all tasks carried out.
  • Structure the work in an organised and effective manner.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience :

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in electrical and control engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Significant experience in the design of control and electrical systems for special purpose machines or test rigs
  • Proven hands-on wiring and electrical panel building skills
  • Instrumentation, sensors and vision for machine and process
  • Competent in the use of CAD for electrical work (SolidWorks Electrical preferred)
  • Knowledge of machinery design standards, safety standards, electrical regulations, e.g. BS EN60204-1, BS7671, EN ISO 13849.
  • Programming of PLCs, HMIs, distributed control and intelligent drive controllers
  • Excellent team working skills

  • Understanding of factories and general factory equipment
  • Beneficial Education, Experience, Skills (not required) :

  • A second European language would be desirable, as the job could require collaboration with a multicultural team
  • Working experience of site electrical work would be an advantage
  • SolidWorks Electrical preferred
