Stagecoach London employs over 4,800 colleagues and operates over 1,600 vehicles from our bus garages in east and south east London. Not only are we a highly successful business, we’re also an integral part of the communities we serve, connecting people through the operation of multi-million miles of routes every year across London.

Since 1980, Stagecoach Group has played a key role in the delivery of high standard transport operations with an industry leading, customer-centric focus. Here at Stagecoach London, we are passionate about delivering exceptional experiences to our customers, no matter how long or short that journey may be.

Are you looking to take your career up a gear? If so, we may have the opportunity just for you – reporting to the Engineering Director you will be responsible for auditing the quality of our vehicles and our procedural compliance across all our London garages, as well as advising on the technical aspects of our existing and new vehicles.

A summary :

Working as part of a support team to our bus garages you will be an advocate leading on ensuring that all technical issues are resolved in a timely and logical manner, working with internal and external stakeholders to solve problems across the fleet on a varied range of vehicles. It’s an exciting time within the business as our transition from conventional powered vehicles takes a huge swing to Electrification, driven by both our business and customers’ agenda to operate Net Zero fleets.

Although based at our Head office at West Ham bus garage, the role requires interaction at all of our 13 garages with managers and engineers gathering intelligence on issues they are facing to enable you as the right individual to drive change through the engineering department to improve our performance and quality, whilst working within the engineering budget.

Working with internal and external stakeholders you will oversee all campaigns, new vehicle inception, disposal of old vehicles, driving quality standards through the business, reducing mean time between failures. Additionally, you will have an input into how we transition our engineering function to face the changing challenges with the movement in vehicle technology, as well as leading on technical training, vehicle refurbishments and heavy accidents.

What we need from you :

  • You’ll be a well-established, senior Engineering leader with an excellent technical knowledge. Ideally you’ll hold a CPC qualification and have PCV experience and will have an understanding of the standards required by VOSA, TfL and the DfT.
  • You’ll be able to evidence your ability to work as part of a high performing team, and provide trusted, inclusive and collaborative leadership.
  • An understanding of mechanical, electrical and bodywork engineering and vehicle maintenance procedures for all our vehicle types.
  • An understanding of legislation and specially the engineering function relating to the transport industry.
  • A good analytical thought process to identify trends at an early stage and implement change

What we can offer you :

  • Great benefits including a good competitive salary, company car, discretionary bonus, company pension scheme, free financial education and affordable loans, and finally a range of money-saving opportunities including discounts on holidays and retail, cinema outings, dental insurance, vehicle breakdown cover and hotels and attractions
  • Free travel for you and a household member on TfL bus and rail services (this is a non-contractual benefit) and outside London there is free travel for you and a companion on Stagecoach buses.
  • UK-wide opportunities, career development and secondment opportunities to work elsewhere in our UK business.
  • An employee assistance programme to support health and wellbeing through a confidential service available 24 hours a day, which provides specialist guidance and assistance on a range of personal and work-related issues, from dealing with stress and anxiety to managing financial, marital or legal issues.
  • A great working environment with loads of opportunity to make new friends from a bunch of great colleagues and employee networks building inclusive environments for women, veterans, carers, multicultural and LGBTQ+ colleagues. We are proud to advocate and collaborate with our corporate charity, as well as a number of community engagement projects – in addition to proudly promoting an array of health, wellbeing and family initiatives.
