We seek to appoint an innovative Catering Services Manager to lead a busy kitchen in preparing and providing healthy, nutritious and appetizing food for our staff and students whilst maintaining health and safety standards at all times.
The right candidate will have the skills to lead staff in a busy kitchen environment, ensuring that the canteen is a busy, happy and productive place to work in. The main qualities required to succeed in the role are being able to plan strategically to deliver an efficient catering service within the available finances; to lead and manage staff effectively; being able to relate well to students and a commitment to positive healthy outcomes for young people, in line with Welsh Government policies and the new school curriculum for Wales; and an enthusiasm and determination to provide a quality provision in the canteen. You will also have excellent attendance and punctuality.

Be responsible for the provision of healthy, nutritious and appetizing menus for the school with a full range of meals and provision of special dietary meals when appropriate for the daily canteen and other occasions as required.Be aware of, and use, the Curriculum for Wales Areas of Learning and Experience to promote healthy eating and healthy lifestylesMeet with Food and Nutrition and Wellbeing leaders when updating menusBe responsible for the ordering of all ingredients, consumables and detergents required and use ICT systems to order these efficiently and monitor costs of purchasesBe responsible for the organisation and supervision of food services, prioritising an efficient service at break and lunchtimesBe responsible for the supervision of other employees (including allocation of duties) and identify any training needs as requiredBe responsible for control of Hygiene, Health & Safety, Security of kitchen and its surroundsEnsure equipment is maintainedBe responsible for clerical duties -ordering supplies, checking invoices, documentation in respect of staffing and wages, control of budget, use ICT systems to maintain daily records as requiredAdvise the Line Manager of any issues arising within the kitchenCooperate and communicate with other school staff, public, parents and students to promote a positive school climateEnsure robust procedures are in place to ensure that Allergen and Nutritional content of dishes are shared with students in line with the current labelling legislationEnsure robust procedures are in place to ensure that all staff are trained regularly in the allergen procedures and monitor adherence to these regularly2. Careful planning of menus to ensure efficient use of food and minimum food wasteEnsure that the menus are attractive to the customer, keeping up with current catering trends and creating concepts and menus that will help increase meal numbers and retain current customersCreate an environment that entices students and staff to use the canteen on a regular basis, including events such as theme daysOrganise events to encourage students to taste new dishes and to eat balanced meals to include fruit and vegetablesMonitor size portions and food waste and make revisions and adaptations as necessary to keep food waste to the minimumMake intelligent use of data provided through the infinity canteen system to inform menu planning, costs and to increase incomeBe responsible for all costings of meals for students, staff and functions etc.Work with others in the school to provide attractive marketing materials and communicate these regularly with students and familiesRequest, analyse and act on monthly figures from Ceredigion County Council on costs and income to the canteenWork with the line manager to provide termly report to Governors on provision, cost, income of the canteen, identifying strengths and areas to further developMonitor staffing levels to ensure appropriate ratio of staff to customers3.
