Your role :

talkSPORT is currently recruiting an Editor who will be responsible for the delivery of successful programmes with a positive impact across all talkSPORT channels, including online, video and social.

Lead the teams producing Kick Off, Sportsbar, and Overnight shows and the teams producing Saturday and Sunday shows on rotation. This role will be on rotation to enable both Editors to have some weekends and evenings off on an agreed schedule.

Day to day you will :

  • Provide hands-on editorial leadership, ensuring content is in line with the sporting calendar, sports news agenda and is what the target audience wants
  • Make sure the shows are responding to audience interaction and breaking news during the shows.
  • Forward plan and use editorial judgement to empower the shows to generate fresh creative ideas, maintaining high ambition in calibre of output, including sourcing guests at the heart of stories.
  • Liaise directly with presenters about any content-related or commercial queries and be a point of contact for any show-related problems or incidents
  • Liaise with the Digital Editor on talkSPORT.com and Director of Video and Social Media about ways in which on-air content can be maximised to attract the greatest number of viewers across social channels, but with a firm understanding of OFCOM, media law and the station’s reputation.
  • Responsible for working with the Head of Production as well as Head of Content to book rotas, fix staffing issues e.g sickness, holiday cover.
  • Line managing production teams, giving regular feedback and developing production and on air talent.
  • Maximise audience and revenue potential, working closely with the commercial and activation teams.
  • Work with other News Broadcasting titles to cross-promote content.
  • This role covers specific day parts and the successful candidate will be required to work across those hours. There may also be some travel with shows for outside broadcasts.

  • In-depth knowledge of the sporting calendar, sports news agenda and excellent relationships and contacts within all sports.
  • Able to work under tight deadlines with changing circumstances and demonstrate agility when dealing with complex productions and budgets.
  • Excellent contacts with an ability to deliver the best sporting guests

  • Principled in the way you go about your role and the decisions you make
  • Purposeful with a strong desire to achieve and deliver work to a high standard
  • Organised and thorough when taking on new projects and able to delegate effectively to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Excited by delivering the best sports coverage on UK radio.
  • A creative mind and a drive to produce engaging and relevant content
  • A good ambassador for the station, you are great at building and nurturing relationships internally and externally.
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment and able to react positively to change.
  • An ability to use both audio and visual recording equipment, as well as visual and audio editing software.
