Lead Data Scientist - Be at the heart of driving change across a Major Food Retailer

Tyneside, UK - £ upto 85k DOE + Benefits - Full-time, Permanent

I am working with a business that are on a mission to become the UK’s favourite food-on-the-go retailer, with ambitious plans to double sales and expand to over 3,000 stores. At the heart of this growth is Data & AI , and I am looking for a Lead Data Scientist to drive innovation and shape the future of analytics for them.

What You’ll Do :

  • Lead & Mentor – Manage and inspire a team of data scientists, fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Drive Strategy – Develop and implement data science initiatives that support business growth.
  • Develop AI & ML Solutions – Create predictive models for customer insights, supply chain optimisation, and digital engagement.
  • Shape the Future – Keep up with emerging AI trends, such as Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) , and explore their potential impact.
  • Collaborate Across Teams – Work closely with leadership, marketing, and engineering to turn data into action.

What They’re Looking For :

  • Experience – 4+ years in data science (2+ in leadership), with a strong track record of deploying machine learning models in real-world applications.
  • Technical Skills – Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and tools like Databricks & Spark.
  • Business Mindset – Ability to translate complex data into strategic insights that drive commercial value.
  • Leadership & Communication – Passion for mentoring, presenting insights, and working cross-functionally. Retail & Supply Chain Experience (desirable but not essential).
