SEMH English Teacher

Progress Teachers are working closely with a local Alternative Provision to appoint an experienced and dedicated English Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering impactful and effective English lessons to students aged 8-18 with SEMH / ASC, tailoring approaches as required to ensure maximum engagement and progress for all.Key Responsibilities :

• Plan and deliver impatful English lessons to pupils across KS2-KS4, adapting content to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH and ASC.
• Provide a nurturing and structured classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
• Develop and contribute to personalised learning plans for students, ensuring their academic progress is tracked and celebrated.
• Offer emotional and social support to students, building trusting relationships to encourage engagement and participation.
• Work closely with colleagues to provide holistic support for students.
• Collaborate with parents and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to each student’s education and well-being.
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and contribute to the development of their individual education plans (IEPs).
• Manage classroom behaviour using positive strategies and de-escalation techniques.
• Provide opportunities for students to engage in activities that build their literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Support students in preparing for life beyond education, including further education, employment, and independent living.Required Qualifications & Experience :
• A degree in English, or a relevant field, with experience teaching the Subject to GCSE-level.
• QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is highly advantageous, however, experienced non-qualified teachers will also be considered for this role.
• Proven experience supporting students with additional needs to overcome barriers and achieve positively.
• Excellent classroom management skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching, with a passion for supporting young people to succeed.
