Job description

Job summary

Birtle View Medical Practice is looking to hire an experienced GP Assistant with good communication and organisational skills who can prioritise tasks, free up GPs time and contribute to the smooth running of appointments, improving patient experience at the practice.

A GP Assistant will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
  • Taking blood pressure, phlebotomy and giving basic vaccinations
  • Completing basic forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as, insurance forms, benefit agencies etc.
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies , contacting on call doctors for advice or arrange admission

GP Assistants will be expected to :

  • Follow the company confidentiality procedure
  • Support GPs with contacting external agencies such as; on-call doctors, safeguarding teams etc.
  • Understanding medical terminology and using this knowledge when filing clinical letters and extracting information
  • Arranging appropriate appointments and supporting the reception / admin team in signposting patients
  • Taking blood pressures, phlebotomy and basic vaccinations
  • Person Specification

    Experience

    Essential

  • Experience working in General Practice
  • Experience working with EMIS Web and Docman
  • Have an understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Desirable

  • Trained and certified in Phlebotomy
  • Experience of taking blood pressure readings
