Mechanical Fitter

David Brown Defence is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our expert assembly team at our Huddersfield manufacturing site. In this hands-on role, youll be responsible for assembling large-scale marine gearboxes and associated equipment, with individual components reaching up to 26 feet and full builds extending to 85 feet in length.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week, with access to excellent benefits, structured shift patterns, and long-term development within a globally recognised engineering business.

As a Mechanical Fitter, your core duties will include : Assembling high-value marine gearboxes and ancillariesWorking from detailed technical and engineering drawingsUsing precision measuring equipment including micrometres (internal and external)Accurately recording build information including serial and cast numbersCompiling shift handover notes and communicating progress effectivelyEnsuring safe, organised working environments and strong housekeeping standardsTaking personal responsibility for health and safety, including reporting hazards and wearing PPEDelivering consistently high-quality work under pressureSupporting on-site gearbox installations and inspections when requiredWhat Were Looking ForProven experience in mechanical fitting or assemblyKnowledge of rotating equipment, including assembly and test methodsLifting and slinging load experienceGantry crane and job crane operationBackground in heavy engineering or complex, high-value manufacturing environmentsStrong attention to detail, quality, and safetyWhy Join David Brown Defence?Part of the global David Brown Santasalo group, David Brown Defence is a world-class manufacturer of engineered gear systems used in naval and defence operations worldwide.
