Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in St John’s Hospital. The termination date will be determined by recruitment of the above substantive post; however, it may be extendable by mutual consent.
The successful applicant will provide a general OMFS service and a trauma / emergency service in collaboration with the incumbent Trauma / Deformity surgeon. The unit provides a comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service to the patients of Lothian and the Borders, with a catchment population of approximately 1 million.
You will provide the trauma / emergency service on alternate weeks. The other week, you will be providing a general OMFS service in outpatients and theatre. There are three sessions in the CEPOD / emergency theatre each week to service the trauma and emergency care commitment of the department, with further access available as required. There are two dedicated trauma / emergency clinics per week. You will be expected to work in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary fashion with the present incumbent to ensure that Trauma / Emergency care for the patients of NHS Lothian is delivered.
