Job description

Job Summary : As a Senior Support Worker in a residential children's home, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and guidance to children, while supporting and mentoring junior staff members. You will help create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment that fosters the well-being and development of the children in our care. Your role will involve leading by example, assisting in the day-to-day operations of the home, and ensuring that the care team delivers consistent, child-centered support.Key Responsibilities : Care and Support :

  • Provide direct care and emotional support to children, ensuring their individual needs are met in a safe and caring environment.
  • Support children in their personal development, promoting independence, self-esteem, and emotional well-being.
  • Build trusting relationships with the children, advocating for their needs and ensuring their voices are heard.Leadership and Mentorship :
  • Support and mentor junior care staff, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality care.
  • Lead by example, promoting best practices in care delivery and fostering a positive team culture.
  • Assist in managing staff rotas and ensure the team works cohesively to meet the needs of the children.Safeguarding :
  • Actively contribute to safeguarding the children, identifying and responding to any concerns in accordance with established procedures and statutory guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe and protective environment for the children, working closely with other professionals to ensure their welfare.Compliance and Record Keeping :
  • Support the home in maintaining compliance with all relevant Ofsted regulations, legislation, and standards.
  • Accurately document the progress of children, ensuring that care plans are up to date and all records are maintained to a high standard.Qualifications and Experience : Essential :
  • Level 3 Diploma in Children’s and Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working in a residential children's care setting.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding procedures, and child protection.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and support junior staff effectively.Desirable :
  • Experience working with children with emotional and behavioral difficulties (EBD).
