Our client is an industry leading manufacturer of custom display fixtures and POP, for the retail industry. Using retail science, they add value, whilst maintaining exceptional quality and service levels. Their clientele includes major supermarkets, high street retailers and leading brands.
They are looking to add a Design Development Engineer to their team. You will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions, that adhere to the customer’s brand guidelines and requirements. This is a client facing role, where you must be able to demonstrate your abilities to convert design briefs into compelling design solutions.
Job Role
Support various areas of the business to ensure that customers design development needs and requirements are met and understood
Receive and interpret design briefs, understanding the type of information required, knowing how and when to challenge and provide opinions and proposals at the briefing stage
Produce high quality engineering drawings in CAD and Inventor, to effectively communicate design engineering requirements
Stay up to date with current and upcoming trends, retail markets and consumer insights
Ensure you fully understand the customer’s brand and act as their brand guardian, producing design solutions which exceed their expectations
Persuade the customer through the design process, influencing the best outcome for both parties
Oversee the entire project / prototype production stage of the design and gain customer approval
Mange workload through a design development tracker, to ensure deadlines are always met
Ensure specification, risk and O&M manuals are produced and issued
Ensure safe working practices are met in line with H&S legislative requirements
There may be some requirement for national and international travel and calls out of hours may be required also
Attend relevant training and exhibitions to continuously develop knowledge and skills
Skills and Experience
Proven skills in Inventor or a similar design package
Experience in mixed material solutions including metal, timber, plastic, glass and graphics
Ideally educated to degree level or an equivalent design based qualification
Able to develop strong working relationships with clients
Excellent organisational and time management skills
An understanding of the design decision making process, with the ability to articulate solutions and use initiative to identify new opportunities
Strong presentation and communication skills
