Community Learning Disability & Autistic Spectrum Disorder Staff Nurse

Band 5 £33,479 - £41,322 including Distance Islands Allowance pro rata per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Community Learning Disability Nurse within Orkney. Based in Kirkwall, the post covers the diversely differing communities across the islands that comprise Orkney.

Excellent communication, organisational and people skills are required as is experience in working positively with other health and social care professionals, third sector agencies and care providers.

Registered Learning Disability Nurse qualification is essential. Experience of positive behaviour intervention is required and being a car driver with access to a vehicle essential.

Line management supervision will be provided by the Band 7 Learning Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder Nurse

The post holder will :

  • Work as a key member of the multidisciplinary learning disability community health and social care team of which the Learning Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder Nurse Services is part of.
  • Be responsible for assessing, planning and delivering person-centred care needs to children and adults with learning disabilities and / or autism and, will enable children and adults with learning disabilities and / or autism to access mainstream services where possible
  • Act as a specialist resource providing clinical expertise, knowledge and skills in the promotion and maintenance of optimum health for children and adults with learning disabilities and / or autism and complex health needs.
  • Assist team colleagues and other healthcare colleagues in the provision of annual health checks for people with a learning disability as specified in The Annual Health Checks for People with Learning Disabilities (Scotland) Directions (2022) and assisting with the delivery of the wider service to people with learning disability and / or autistic spectrum disorder.
  • Work with Primary Health Care Teams located throughout the islands.
  • Liaise with and facilitate specialist learning disability support from NHS Grampian.
  • When patient needs dictate, work with all services within the Balfour Hospital.
