The Role

The role is responsible for the management and coordination of our feet operations. This includes fulfilling the position of Transport Manager against the business’ Operators License alongside managing the daily operations of our fleet including vans, lorries, pickups, agricultural machinery, and plant equipment. You will lead equipment care culture across the business, ensuring all our drivers have relevant licence checks & are compliant, as well as ensuring all vehicles and plant across the fleet are maintained to the highest standard.

You will oversee our onsite workshop and overseeing a team of mechanics and coordinate maintenance of all vehicles as plant internally as well as with external suppliers where required. Additionally, you will handle the procurement of new vehicles and make recommendations for the sale or replacement of existing ones, based on end-of-life and cost efficiency assessments.

As the primary contact for traffic violations and reports of poor driving within the fleet, you will address these incidents and escalate them to the relevant Line Managers as necessary and ensure that adequate disciplinary measures have been carried out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own’ the fleet – leading equipment care culture across the business; implementing measures as necessary to improve culture towards maintenance, cleanliness across the board.

Conduct spot checks as well as routine inspections on all vehicles.

  • Ensure all vehicles are road legal, including MOT, tax and insurance and Wessex Internet’s internal health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and progress measures to improve driver behaviour across the business
  • The point of contact for all traffic offences and reports of poor driving of vehicles, following up with necessary disciplinary action in conjunction the relevant line manager and / or HR

  • Run induction briefs for all new starters including introduction to Wessex Internet driving policy and processes, workshop operations and all key personalities
  • Procure and implement new telematics system across the business’ fleet
  • Asset management of all mobile roadworthy plant, including all towable equipment on the company’s asset management system
  • Ownership and monitoring of the Company’s Operators License
  • Monitor and assess fleet efficiency (including fuel and running costs) and end of life replacement expectations.
  • Manage all maintenance requirements across the fleet
  • Coordinating maintenance operations with the internal workshop as well as with external suppliers

  • Proactive management of ongoing maintenance requirements including servicing to minimise downtime.
  • Primary contact and overall responsibility for emergency or high-risk repairs, insurance claims, investigations, and ownership of company driver and disciplinary policy.
  • Procurement of new (or hire as appropriate) vehicles in line with company budgets to meet operational requirements.
  • Line management of mechanics, HGV driver
  • Job Requirement :

  • At least 3 years of previous experience managing a fleet of vehicles and / or machinery
  • Transport Manager CPC or similar Transport Manager qualification would be desirable
  • CE License + CPC would be desirable
  • Knowledge of vehicle inspections for pre-MOT checks
  • Knowledge of MOT requirements for all classes
  • In depth knowledge of the highway code
  • In depth knowledge towing capacities and maximum train weights

    Salary : £40,000 to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience

    Role Type : Full Time / Permanent

    Hours : 40 hours per week

    Location : Office based Nr Blandford Forum, Dorset 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday

    Holiday : 25 days plus bank holidays
