Join Newport City Council as our new, innovative Recycling Project Manager!

Are you a forward-thinking leader passionate about increasing recycling rates and driving impactful change? Do you have a knack for managing multiple workstreams with tight deadlines, and excel at data analysis and reporting? If so, Newport City Council needs you!

We are seeking a dynamic Recycling Project Manager to lead our efforts in new initiatives to increase recycling beyond 70% and manage a range of recycling and reuse projects to ensure Newport leads the way in Wales. This is not just a traditional role - we are looking for someone with creative problem-solving skills who can revolutionise our approach to recycling and reuse across the City.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and implement transformative strategies to increase recycling rates beyond 70%.
  • Manage multiple recycling and reuse projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Incorporate data-driven methods to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination with communities.
  • Work closely with a range of contractors, partners, and suppliers to increase recycling and reduce carbon emissions.

  • A leader with a passion for innovation and transformation and experience in managing multiple workstreams with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical capacity and data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Proven track record of successful project management and team leadership to adapt and respond to the evolving needs of the city.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an appreciation of the importance of customer care.
  • An appreciation of budget management is essential, as you will be responsible for overseeing expenditures and ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
  • The ideal candidate will maintain attention to detail while working to tight deadlines and possess excellent IT and data analysis / management skills.

    You will report directly to the Waste and Cleansing Service Manager, work closely with and provide support as needed to other managers across the Environment and Public Protection service area that brings together waste and cleansing services with grounds, community protection, parks and recreation, cemetery and crematorium, climate change, biodiversity and regulatory services.
