Teaching Personnel work in partnership with a coeducational secondary school located in Waterlooville, graded ‘GOOD’ in all areas during Ofsted’s most recent visit in 2024. The school are seeking learning support assistants to join them as soon as soon as possible, on a full time, temporary or permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive environment within a successful school. Although experience supporting young people within a SEN is beneficial, it is not essential for this role; the successful candidate will be passionate about supporting students with additional learning needs to reach their full potential.
The school have a dedicated resourced provision for pupils with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in which high level support can be offered for those with Autism and Dyslexia. The Autism unit is designed to offer pupils a workspace in which they can calm down, should they need to take time out from the main school. It is also a space in which pupils can take their break and utilise the sensory area. The provision is also used for interventions and therapies can take place, including those detailed on the EHCP. The pupils given a place within the Dyslexia unit are given support in class from a learning support assistant and within the unit are supported with one to one or small group sessions with the school’s specialist Dyslexia Teacher.
The role :
The appointed Learning Support Assistant / s will be supporting the teaching and welfare of children with special educational needs to progress towards the class / individual targets set. This will include supporting pupils with Autism and / or Dyslexia within the provision and across the wider school. This support will come in a variety of forms such as in class, group interventions, one to one intervention, mentoring, exam access arrangements and encompass both academic and pastoral needs.
Working hours for this role are 8am – 3pm, Monday to Friday with a 25-minute morning break and a 20-minute afternoon break.
Experience of working with young people with special educational needs or experience of social communication difficulties would be beneficial, but not essential. The school are looking for passionate people who have a strong desire to support young people overcome their barriers to learning. Candidates must have a high standard of communication, numeracy and literacy and be able to promote these effectively to ensure we deliver outstanding academic outcomes for our young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
