Job description

Job Summary

The successful candidate will join a School In-Reach team that provides advice, signposting, identification, and brief intervention in relation to early intervention for Children & Young People's emotional health and wellbeing. The role will sit within a nursing structure and will support the School In-Reach Team Lead and Senior School In-Reach Practitioners in developing relationships with professionals within the school environment. This includes providing education to professionals, children & young people, and families, to promote emotional wellbeing and resilience through advice, training, and the delivery of interventions in whole class / assembly teaching, group, and individual formats. Through these approaches, this post will ensure that education staff are supported, and children and young people's needs are addressed at the right time, by the right person in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

Amongst Other Things The Role Will Entail

Acting as the allocated professional attached to various school clusters. The development and delivery of emotional health and wellbeing training to relevant staff across Swansea Bay within Local Authority, Educational, and Primary Care settings to build resilience and knowledge. Developing clear strategies within schools to ensure Whole School Approach requirements are met. Work with the School In-Reach Team Lead and Senior School In-Reach Practitioners to monitor school and young people satisfaction. Developing training packages for education, parents, children and young people, and health board staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and / or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Qualified to deliver activity under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010) including registrants with relevant regulatory bodies for the following qualifications : First level nurse, registered to practice in mental health or learning disabilities.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and guidelines in relation to mental health. Knowledge of child development and attachment. Knowledge of systemic family therapeutic processes. Relevant post-graduate qualification. Knowledge of guidelines (e.g. NYTH / NEST Framework, Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010), ALNET, WARRN, Whole School Approach).
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Significant previous experience of working within a professional mental health setting. Experience of managing risk in a mental health setting of working with families, carers, and trusted adults. Experience of multi-professional and multi-agency working including representing the service at meetings.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working within a professional mental health setting with children and young people. Experience of community-based mental health work. Experience of training and / or supervising staff. Experience of delivering CBT-informed approaches (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT, SFT, CFT). Experience in peer supervision and reflective practice.
  • Aptitude and Abilities

  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable in levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing. Skilled in the monitoring of physical health (e.g. blood pressure, temperature, pulse).
