An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Property Services Midlands team based in Birmingham.The main purpose of the role is to manage the financial and contractual administration of projects carried out by Seddon.Benefits : Competitive Salary / Competitive Car Allowance / 26 Days Holidays / Pension Scheme / Free Parking / Private Health Care / Professional Development & Training Opportunities / Free Wellbeing Initiatives such as eye care vouchers, occupational health, employee assistance programme / Ministry of Fun / Flexible Working / Online Retailer Discounts (Seddon Smartspending)What youll do : Cooperate and engage with the Project / Contracts Manager and the project teams to ensure consistent delivery of successful projects in order to support the achievement of Seddon objectives and to deliver the target margins.Manage the project status report / CTC, in conjunction with the Contracts / Project Manager, understanding and accurately forecasting project values, costs & margins against the target margin, and agreeing changes and solutions with the Contracts / Project Manager prior to implementation.Forecast cash on an accurate and timely basis, ensuring that the cash position of the project is maximised without compromising our contractual arrangements and relationships with either customers or subcontractors & suppliers.Manage all cost control aspects of the projects, ensuring the use of appropriate cost reporting systems.Support the Contracts / Project Manager to ensure that all significant project issues and correspondence and all necessary contractual processes have been observed, notices issued, records kept and documents stored by the team to protect the companys position, seeking advice from the Lead Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager where necessary.Support the Contracts / Project Manager in providing monthly reports to the customer, ensuring that such reports contain accurate forecasts of our rolling draft final account, full information concerning variations and record contractual notices.Measure / value / negotiate / check as necessary all subcontract interim and final account applications including checking of subcontractors measurement. Process all associated payments in accordance with the Construction Act and / or other prevailing legislation.Assist in the preparation of claims or other means of dispute management to correct an imbalance of cost and value. To include drafting and sending contractual letters.Inform the Lead Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager of any possible claims by subcontractors.Raise alarm signals to the Lead Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager when the contract is straying outside the cost and profit parameters. Use best endeavours and seek to maximise margins in co-operation with the Contracts / Project Manager by keeping cost to a minimum and value to a maximum by all professional legitimate means.Monitor preliminaries / site management costs and advise the Contracts / Project Manager on action to be taken to remedy over-expenditure.Take off quantities from drawings and provide sufficient information to enable tenders to be prepared from those quantities.Prepare subcontract enquiries including formulating the tender list in consultation with the wider management team and subsequent analysis and assessment of subcontract quotations.Negotiate subcontract packages to deliver the most favourable outcome for Seddon.Such other duties normally deemed to be part of the Surveying function as instructed by the Commercial Manager.Have you got what it takes : Previous experience in a similar roleMust have a QS Degree or equivalentGood data interrogation skillsMust have commercial awareness with experience in commercial contractingExperience of management accountsGood re-measurement skillsBe proficient in several Microsoft software packages such as (but not limited to) Word, Excel, Outlook and Power PointFull UK driving licence
