Job description

Job Advertisement : Cover Supervisor – Knowsley Area

Position : Cover Supervisor

Location : Knowsley, Merseyside

School Type : Secondary Schools (Challenging Behaviors, Trauma-Informed)

About Us :

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Cover Supervisor to work in secondary schools across the Knowsley area. Our schools support students who face significant challenges, often stemming from traumatic experiences. These students display complex and challenging behaviors, requiring a calm, patient, and consistent approach to help them engage with their education and thrive.

The Role :

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during teacher absences, ensuring that students remain engaged in their learning. This role requires strong behavior management skills, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students who may exhibit resistance to authority and learning.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure students remain on task.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, using de-escalation strategies when needed.
  • Build trust and rapport with students, fostering a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Provide encouragement and support to students who may struggle to engage due to trauma-related challenges.
  • Work closely with school staff to maintain continuity in student learning and behavior management strategies.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience and perseverance.

What We Are Looking For :

  • Resilience : Ability to remain calm, composed, and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Sensitivity : An empathetic approach to understanding and supporting students with trauma.
  • Encouragement : A positive attitude that motivates students to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Adaptability : Flexibility to manage diverse situations and student needs.
  • Experience : Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with challenging behaviors, is desirable.
  • Qualifications : A relevant qualification or degree is advantageous but not essential; we value experience and attitude above all.
  • Skills : Strong communication, behavior management, and relationship-building skills.
  • What We Offer :

  • Comprehensive training in behavior management and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Competitive pay rates and flexible working opportunities.
  • The chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people.
  • Supportive school environments with collaborative staff teams.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
  • All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.

We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
