About the Role
The successful candidate will work in a team of Ophthalmologists, registrars, an orthoptist, and a specialist ophthalmic nurse in the outpatient clinic and operating theatre. We run optometrist and nurse-led glaucoma clinics, registrar-led minor procedures clinics, and have nurse injectors for avastin clinics.
This secondary level, 400-bed accredited public hospital provides acute and elective care for our region of over 162,000 people.

Hawke’s Bay Ophthalmologists have a collegial attitude and an active commitment to ongoing education. Monthly continuing medical education meetings are held and ongoing audit is actively encouraged. A generous budget is allocated to attend meetings and courses in New Zealand and overseas.

About you
- The successful applicant will have a range of experience in general ophthalmology with subspecialty training in Oculoplastic or Vitreoretinal surgery being an advantage.
- The successful applicant will possess either FRANZCO or an equivalent qualification that would lead to specialist recognition and have an ongoing commitment to providing a high-class service to the community.
- Applicants must be registered, or eligible for vocational registration, with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Specialist Ophthalmologist.
